So, I'm, um... back? Sep. 12th, 2011 @ 09:05 pm
Maybe? Not sure. I've been through some AMAZING changes over the last several years, and I think I want to start blogging my life again. I am back in a happy, stable, poly relationship. Working, living in a new city. So... yeah. I think I'll be saying hello a bit more.

Still no power Dec. 18th, 2008 @ 09:51 am
So, there is still no power at my home. Unitil claims that all "major circuits" will be back up by the end of tonight. I'll believe it when I see it. I also have no idea if my street counts as a "major circuit" or not. I've been on an air mattress at my mother's since Sunday night, I'm hoping to escape north for solstice. At this point, storm or no I don't really care, I'm going to give driving a shot.

I'm going to be having a word with the head of the business office about the way they renovated the apartments we now live in. When they renovated they added individual gas heating for each apartment, but walled up each of the fireplaces. Now, we do have hot water, since that is gas and runs on a mechanical switch, but there is no way to manually override the forced hot water heating system and cause it to heat the apartment. Heck, given the size of the place, a single franklin stove would have managed to heat the place... so yeah, the person in charge of the building is on my shit list, and I will be after him when I get back.

In the meantime, I'm surviving being at my mother's... but the place is tiny and I don't relish the possibility of being back there on sunday night if Unitil can't come through on their promise...

One more lyric for the day Mar. 28th, 2008 @ 03:25 pm
I used to play this song in concert... and it's been far too long since I heard or played it. I found a concert performance of it I hadn't seen before and it just reduced me to tears of joy. (For clarity, the Mary Ellen Carter is a much loved ship)

My favorite part of the song is the end:

"And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow
With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go
Turn to and put out all all your strength of arm and heart and brain
And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again

Rise again, Rise again
Though your heart it be broken, or life about to end
No matter what you've lost be it a home, a love, a friend
Like the Mary Ellen Carter, Rise Again"

- "The Mary Ellen Carter" by: Stan Rogers

Regarding the upcoming LJ boycott Mar. 19th, 2008 @ 10:48 am
So, our new LJ overlords seem to have forgotten that we are a community as well as being a source of cash for them and have thrown down the gauntlet thusly:

In Russian: http://www.izbrannoe.info/30184.html
Translated: http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/373663.html#cutid1

Quoth Anton, "I honestly don't know any people that would seriously take up that initiative. So I am presuming such an idea to be marginal at best."

Honestly, I want them to understand that while they have every right to run a business, we are the people who actually provide the CONTENT that makes this site what it is. I refuse to remain on a site that would treat me, as a user, with such contempt. I will be boycotting LJ (both reading and posting) on friday, and I encourage all of you to do the same.

» Safe journey, little rattie
Last night my little rattie, Door, passed on. She had a tumor that was slowly but surely taking up all her nutrients, putting pressure on her body and killing her from within. I spent the afternoon holding her, keeping her warm and feeding her special foods... but I knew she was going. She'd perk up, lick my fingers and nuzzle, then have to rest. When I felt like she was getting tired out, I put her back in her hammock along with her Mischief. Her sisters all cuddled up around her, licking and nuzzling her while she slept. At the end I know she was hurting, but she made her best effort at grooming her family in return. I thought she might make it another day, and I was so sad to have to wrap up her cold, dead corpse last night. We'll lay her to rest once the snow melts... She's the first pet I've ever had... and I'm going to miss her... She was so warm and affectionate, I know she's up for a better incarnation her next time around.

» Giants superbowl bound!!

Yes, folks, defying all expectations (and their own ineptitude), my New York Giants are headed to the superbowl to face some team from New England... In my household this will be known as a "Civil War" game.

Go Giants!!!
